How it all Began
It all started on Christmas Day 2003. This was no normal Xmas morning though. As I
helped the dogs unwrap their presents. Yes our dogs get their own presents, cookies and toys.
They even have their own beds, though they like ours better. And their own lawn furniture. It's
good to be the dogs around here.
But I digress. As the two dogs, Baxter and Suzi were convincing Teresa that they should
be able to eat all of their cookies now and save none for later I was eyeballing a box that did not
have the normal clothes box shape. Let me tell you this, Teresa gets me some great gifts. Most of
the time I'm with her when she picks up my big gift for Xmas. Then I have to wait to open it on
Xmas morning. But this box was not like that. It had a differnt feel to it. I knew it wasnt clothes,
she always gets me nice clothes. But the box was to big for that. It could be some new Patriot or
Red Sox hats. I wasnt sure what it was.
By now my curiosity was peaked. So after putting the dogs cookies out of sight so they
would leave us alone we started to unwrap the presents we had gotten for each other. I cant
remember what I got Teresa, I think it was the digital camera that drives her nuts chewing up and
spitting out batteries like a Little League Team goes through bubble gum. But now it was time to
open the present that was calling to me. Open Me, Open Me. I grabbed the box sat down on the
LazyBoy, the chair not the dog. And tore in.
As I tore the paper off the box. And by no meens is this easy. Teresa believes the wrap
should be able to withstand a catagory 5 hurricane. And make it impossible for me to get into the
present for a pre-Xmas peek without a noticable tear in the wrapping. But as I was able to get the
papaer off the box there it was, in all its glory. The present any beer loving person would want for
Xmas. The Mr.Beer Home Brewery. I wont go into the details of my feelings. but I will say I dont
think I could love Teresa any more than i did at that moment. It was a great Xmas.
Now 3 1/2 years later I'm not so sure Teresa is happy with the choice of presents for that
year. I no longer have this little 2 gallon beer making machine on the counter in the kitchen. I still
do have it. My home brewery now consumes a corner in our computer room and about 100 sqr ft
of garage space. And still growing. I have a Keg system She bought me for Xmas 2005. I sure do
get alot of use out of that present. And we have been talking about a Brew Shed.
I think the only thing that limits me from having a 100 gallon brewery is we havent hit the
lottery yet. We play twice a week. |
